  • Salary £24,221 – £30,644 pro rata per annum

Oldham College is a medium sized general further education college, with a turnover of almost £25m. It has one main campus in the centre of town, and this in the third phases of a £40m redevelopment which began in 2012.  The Creative area sits in this main campus area and has  its own dedicated fashion and textiles teaching studio. Higher education is taught on a second, dedicated campus, a short walk away.   The College delivers a full range of work related education and training, including 16-18 programmes of study, T levels, apprenticeships, adult learning and higher education.  It has over 5000 full-time students and 600 undergraduates.   

The College is in the top quartile for 16-18 programmes of study and English GCSE resits, and in apprenticeship provision, but is the second highest performing provider Greater Manchester. The quality of its higher education provision is better than many established universities.

The Role:

We are looking for a conscientious, inclusive, innovative and highly motivated individual. Who will deliver inspirational teaching & learning on our UAL Fashion & Textiles course at level  2 and 3. The successful applicant must be able to deliver pattern cutting and garment construction technical skills alongside developing students understanding of the creative process from research, design development and production. The Fashion students’ progress to National and Regional Universities and so an understanding portfolio requirements is essential.

The role involves being a pastoral programme tutor for a group of fashion students and you will support their progression to their next step towards meeting their career goals. You will teach, assess and contribute to the curriculum design and delivery for your students. Our UAL delivery involves seeing our student groups exhibiting and working with employers to provide students work experience opportunities.

You should have the following:-

With a relevant degree/industrial experience and a teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this, you will have a broad range of skills relating to primarily to fashion and then to textiles. You will have good organisational skills and be able to advise and support students through their career development and planning. Ongoing staff training and support is available as part of our professional development for curriculum staff. We are currently working with Tom Sherrington on a Teach to Distinction programme of training for Teaching and Learning.
