Volunteer Counsellor

Time:  Any time between 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Requirements: Member of the BACP and have a driving licence.
Commitment:  2 clients. Term time.
Client Group:  16+
Modality: Person-Centered or Integrative where person-centred is an element

The Bedford College Group are looking for Volunteer Student Counsellors to help with the running of the counselling service. We provide talking therapy to all students. We offer 6 sessions initially with the possibility of an extension of a further 6 sessions.

The ages range from 16 to older adults.

Clients can be referred to the service by staff however we do also encourage clients to self-refer. Each client is assessed by the Counselling Co-Ordinator prior to you seeing them.

The counselling service is based at Bedford College however we also provide counselling at Bedford Sixth-Form and Shuttleworth College.

You are expected to attend appropriate supervision. This will be a minimum of 1 ½ hours a month or 1 ½ hours for every 8 client hours, whichever comes first.

You are expected to attend mandatory in-house training, in particular Safeguarding and PREVENT.

You must be a member of the BACP and adhere to the Ethical Framework. In addition to this you must be aware of the BACP competencies of working with children and young people.

You are encouraged to attend regular CPD. To comply with the BACP you will be completing 1 module from MindEd per half term.

The Counselling Co-Ordinator will complete reports for your training provider.

In return for your time the Bedford College Group provides indemnity insurance and the Bedford College Group will pay up to £50 per month towards the cost of your supervision. You will need a supervisor that is trained/experienced in working with adults and young people.
