We are looking for a Molecular Plant Ecologist: Carbon, Water, Climate

Salary: £ 29,316 – £ 33,739

+ 45 days in a full year (inclusive of 14 public/general holidays)

+ Enrolment into Local Government Superannuation Scheme

The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) is a distinctive research centre located in the town of Thurso in the northern Highlands of Scotland. It is part of North Highland College, one of the partners

in the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI); Scotland’s newest and most distinctive university.

The ERI has a rapidly evolving research profile and provides a high quality, vibrant academic environment, and unrivalled access to some outstanding natural environments.

Within the ERI, Dr Roxane Andersen who leads the Carbon Water & Climate theme recently secured a Leverhulme Leadership Award to undertake a research programme on peatland resilience: from molecular to landscape scales.

Applications are sought from enthusiastic and motivated candidates to develop “omics” and trait-based approaches for testing stress responses in Sphagnum species and relate those to emissions of greenhouse gases and volatile organic compounds. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant fields, such as:

  • Biology/botany
  • Biochemistry/chemistry
  • Environmental sciences
  • Applied Sciences

Experience with Sphagnum identification, field work in remote areas including peatlands and demonstrable laboratory and analytical skills will be considered favourably, however training will be provided for all aspects of the post.

  • Appointment will be made for a fixed period of 36 months
    • Closing date: Friday 16th October 2020, 12:00 noon
