An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Safeguarding, Progress & Inclusion Department at Kirklees College. The role is cross college and although the post may be predominately based at the Huddersfield Centre, or one of our other sites, flexibility to travel to other college sites is required of the successful candidate.
The overall purpose of the post is to work in collaboration with curriculum staff, Progress Coaches and internal/external agencies to support vulnerable cohorts across college, attending PEP (Personal Educational Plan) meetings, EHCP reviews, Child in Need, Child Protection and TAF meetings, and LAC (looked after children) and CL (care leaver) reviews with multi agencies. The role requires strong links with the Virtual School, LA, Social Care, a range of other external agencies and independent reviewing and auditing offices to ensure the college is offering individualised mentoring support for these students as well as meeting our legal statutory duty.
The ideal candidates will have previous experience of working with vulnerable groups, including disengaged ‘hard to reach’ students and be able to understand the range of support which may be necessary to help them succeed. You will have experience of working with students who demonstrate challenging behaviour, have low engagement with education and complex needs - with evidence of positive outcomes. You will need excellent communication skills, a commitment to the welfare of young people in education and a willingness to undertake relevant staff development.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and educated to Level 3 e.g. BTEC, NVQ, A-Level equivalent. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
Kirklees College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good. Operating across Kirklees with centres based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.
As a learning organisation and as part of our commitment to your continued professional development we may require you to complete an apprenticeship standard or framework that relates to this opportunity.
Kirklees College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
