Apprentice Recruitment Officer

Fixed Term Contract until June 2020

Nottingham College is one of the largest further education colleges in the country creating opportunities for employment and progression to higher education for the people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire; raising their prosperity and that of the local economy.

If you are passionate about shaping the lives of people within your local community and building a stronger more prosperous Nottingham this role is for you!!

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the rapidly expanding Construction Skills Fund project team at Nottingham College.  This is a fundamental role that supports local individuals wanting to secure either apprenticeships or long term sustained employment within the construction industry.  You will be responsible for building strong working relationships with our local construction companies to generate long term sustained job opportunities that we then help them secure the talent for through our trainees at the construction skills hub.  You will have a case load of “site ready” trainee’s that have undergone site specific training to remove their barriers to employment that are now considered ready to enter the world of work.

A key issue we find in construction is that many jobs are filled through the existing construction network and therefore many jobs do not get publicly advertised to enable new entrants to access the industry.  The industry is however experiencing a skills shortage and therefore the sole purpose of this role is to try and bridge this gap.  You will become instrumental to the change required in the Nottingham construction industry to ensure the City can continue to grow and develop.

This post will also help support learners from underrepresented groups (Women, ethnic minority groups and disability learners) into roles within the construction industry.  This post will work closely alongside our Industry Lead for construction and our Recruitment Officer for construction to help encourage local construction companies to recruit a diverse and inclusive workforce.

We are looking for a tenacious self-starter, who is dedicated to helping shape the future careers of our students at Nottingham College.  This role is both employer and learner focused and will involve building strong working relationships with the students you are trying to support whilst equally building rapport with local companies and selling the benefits of an inclusive workforce.  This role will also include account management of those companies and a cross college role to work with their colleagues in other business engagement teams to sell the benefits of this project and bring around long term changes of the local construction communities.

This role has a high level of autonomy and therefore self-management, organisation, reliability and professionalism is key at all times. Strong IT skills are required with a working knowledge of the full Microsoft office suite.  A full clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle would also be beneficial but not essential, if you feel you could travel around Nottingham cost and time effectively we would be willing to support.

Experience within this sector or a recruitment background is not essential but would be beneficial.

The post will be shortlisted against the essential and desirable criteria at application stage from the person specification. Please ensure that you have a look at this specification attached to the Role Profile and complete your application directly from this, as these specifications are an integral part of the selection process.

For further details on this post which the job description and person specification cannot answer for you, please contact Susannah Chambers on email Susannah.chambers@nottinghamcollege.ac.uk
