We are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic teacher of Chinese, teaching A-Level for 3 hours per week. Reporting to the Head of Humanities, the Chinese teacher would work alongside other members of the languages department, in particular the Head of Modern Languages.

A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write an appropriately stimulating and challenging Scheme of Work for Chinese.
  • Effective delivery of the course (AL course in one year).
  • Teach literature and film according to set texts in preparation for essay writing.
  • Preparation and conduct of Speaking Exams (in Mandarin).
  • Set independent work preparing students for the Listening, Reading and Translation paper.
  • Ensuring students’ notes are appropriate and well-organised.
  • Marking student work and returning within agreed deadlines.
  • Marking exams and/or coursework and accurately recording.
  • Furnish detailed comments for UCAS applications when requested.
  • Liaising with the Head of Department, Head of Faculty, Head of Section & Exams Officer as appropriate to make exam entries for students taught.
  • Writing academic reports as required.
  • Using educational technology in teaching, including interactive whiteboard with the StudySmart VLE.
  • Ensure students have appropriate textbooks, liaising with Head of Department as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Attend regular Faculty and staff meetings, and events.
  • Be proactive in taking responsibility for matters relating to health & safety.
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned (eg cover, invigilation etc.).
  • Keep accurate daily online registers.

EXPERIENCE

  • Good first degree in Chinese desirable but not essential.
  • Teaching qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of teaching Chinese essential.
