Head of A Levels

It is an exciting time to join Wakefield College, following a successful Ofsted Inspection where the College achieved a rating of ‘Good’ across all inspection areas. Significant investment in our estate enables the College to provide modern teaching spaces which includes the recent opening of our Advanced Skills and Innovation Centre, in addition to the acquisition and renovation of a prestigious historic building in the heart of our Wakefield City Campus, which is due to open shortly.

The Head of A Levels post has become available due to retirement. This opportunity will allow you to join a thriving department with a team of professional and passionate teachers, as well as the chance to take hold of this success and mould it to mirror the needs of a future Wakefield College.

As Head of A Levels, you will strategically lead the growth and development of the A level provision and will develop and implement a culture of quality improvement to lead the provision to outstanding.

About the role:

As the Head of A Levels, you’ll be a key member of the senior leadership team, operating in a role that will include strategic responsibilities. Specifically, this will involve:

  • Identifying and developing an appealing A Level curriculum which offers appropriate breadth and enables students to achieve and progress.
  • Developing relationships with both feeder schools and Higher Education Institutions to enable strong progression opportunities for students.
  • Managing the A Level team and leading on improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Working closely with the Executive Director to explore opportunities for income generation.

More about you:

Solution focused, positive and with excellent communication skills, success will stem from your significant experience of strategy development and leading staff and teams through change. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualified to Level 6 or above in a relevant discipline.
  • Successful experience of establishing a culture of high expectation of performance, ensuring achievement of excellent standards of teaching and learning and learner outcomes using innovative approaches.
  • PGCE / Teaching qualification.
  • A strong understanding of the FE sector and the A Level curriculum, with a proven track record of increasing student success.
