One Garden Brighton is a newly redeveloped tourist destination, a walled garden, rediscovered, reinvented and opening to the public for the first time summer 2020. One Garden Brighton will feature expertly designed gardens, One Garden Kitchen, a place to eat and drink, One Garden Market, a retail space complete with nursery, and One Garden Events offering small and large-scale community events. One Garden Brighton is a subsidiary of Plumpton College. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new organisation and team in the initial opening of One Garden. As a Horticulture Apprentice, you will work alongside the Senior Gardener of One Garden and the Grounds and Gardens Team, as well as being part of the wider Plumpton College Team.

THE ROLE 

This is a unique position for a dedicated, hardworking, enthusiastic, motivated apprentice who is keen to learn the broad subject of Horticulture and has the initiative to further themselves and to be part of a team that will be working on the Stanmer Walled Garden restoration project. To begin with, you will be helping to restore a Victorian Walled Garden into a new exciting visitor attraction on the edge of Brighton, showcasing different methods of Horticulture, from herbaceous planting to growing fruit and vegetables, implementing a design from one of the creators of the Eden Project. Once the garden is open to the public you will be required to work with the Senior Gardener, Grounds and Gardens Manager and team, volunteers and students, assisting with the day to day running of all Horticultural operations within the Walled Garden and surrounding space. There will be occasions where you will be required to assist the team in working on other Plumpton campus.

You will show commitment during your studies in developing your academic portfolio in achieving your qualification.

The rates of pay for this role will be based on the national minimum wage for apprenticeships starting at £4.00 per hour in year 1 and rising to the higher rate national minimum wage in year 2.
