Associate HR Business Partner

You will be joining the Organisation during an exciting period of change, working as part of a Group HR Team providing HR advice and guidance specifically in the area of the transition work that is occurring post-merger.   

You will contribute to HR activities, best practice and workload of a small local HR team supporting three college campuses across Surrey. You will be working closely with line managers and individual employees to consult and embed the Activate Learning culture and aid in the restructuring of the business.

What you need to be successful:

This role is for a HR professional who enjoys building relationships, providing technical expertise and driving positive outcomes. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with an approachable and confident manner when dealing with people at all levels.

Be able to prioritise your workload whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 

Experience of working in a fast pace HR environment and having a positive manner is essential to your success. Experience of organisational change, TUPE and restructures is essential.

The role:

The role will aid in restructure of Surrey colleges as part of the transition process to Activate Learning. Key involvement in the transition from attending consultation meetings with staff, writing restructure paperwork, meeting notes and liaison with solicitors to the organisation of trial period meetings. To aid the practical day to day working of transferring working practices and documentation to help integrate the Surrey team to easily use Activate documentation and processes. To consult and transfer staff, where appropriate, to differing contractual terms. To aid managers in understanding the Activate systems and processes

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Strong personal organisation skills
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced HR environment
  • Ability to work with consistent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good IT skills and confident use of HR systems and manipulation of data
  • Sound demonstratable knowledge of employment law
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with line managers and employees at all levels
  • CIPD Level 3 working towards CIPD level 5 (salary £25,699 to £27,261)
  • CIPD Level 5 working towards CIPD Level 7 (salary £28,077 to £30,677)


This is a fixed term role until the end of April 2020 (37 hours per week), based predominantly in Guildford (at Guildford College) with a salary of between £25,699 and £30,677 per annum. There will be a requirement for occasional travel to sites within Surrey (Merrist Wood and Farnham Colleges) and to meet the wider HR team in Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.  This role enjoys 30 days’ annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, enjoys an open and friendly culture and the opportunity to inspire change within an evolving Organisation.
