About the role
The Director of Governance & Company Secretary reports directly to the Chair of the New City College Group Corporation – its Board.
With senior responsibility for all governance affairs and scheduling across the Group, and with line management responsibility for the Clerk to the Havering Colleges Local Board, the post-holder will provide advisory, strategic and administrative support to the Corporation and ensure compliance with the Governance Code adopted by the Corporation and reported to the funding bodies.
Independent from the executive, though ensuring a collaborative relationship exists between the Board and the senior leadership team, the post-holder will offer counsel to both so that New City College Group operates within its lawful powers for the benefit of its communities.
Who we’re looking for
The role of Director of Governance & Company Secretary at New City College involves far more than the average Clerk to the Board role. As a senior post-holder and officer of the Corporation, the role will lead improvements in non-executive oversight and review the recommendations given following a recent independent review of governance across the Group.
As such, it’s important to us that candidates have equal measures of leadership ambition and board secretariat experience. You’ll understand the legal frameworks within which FE boards must operate and have the natural ability to advise the Members of the New City College Corporation, ensuring compliance with the Governance Code adopted by the Board. The Director of Governance & Company Secretary will have a keen eye for detail and the ability to plan and organise Corporation affairs and provide counsel.
Your experience will come from servicing committees, boards and corporate bodies in the public and/or private sector in the capacity of Clerk, Company Secretary, Solicitor or Governance Advisor/Director. It is possible that your experience comes from working within the FE/skills sector, although we do welcome applications from candidates applying from outside of the sector. This role acts as a crucial point of contact for advice, support and leadership within the New City College Group.
