Hours: 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year.
The successful post holder will be responsible for delivering learning support for learners with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Supporting best practice; they will be involved in monitoring and recording student progress and participating in College Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP) annual reviews for identified students with more complex Special Educational Needs.
In addition, the LSA role focuses on ensuring identified students have effective and timely access to appropriate additional support and will also provide support and integration for identified learners who have disclosed Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND). Maintaining a caring, non-judgemental approach when supporting learners from a variety of backgrounds and with widely differing needs is of paramount importance. Provision is delivered both in and out of the classroom. A flexible approach to working is essential to the success of this role.
The post holder will need to be able to work on their own initiative, be organised and be able to demonstrate participation in and help with the development of good working practices in a fast paced and dynamic team delivering learning, support or an associated area of practice.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential in this role, as the post holder will come into contact with a variety of learners with wide ranging needs, and potential barriers to learning. Learning Support Advisors are expected to formulate effective partnerships with learners, College tutors, other support providers/teams, parents, carers, feeder schools, Local Authority Transport providers and other external agencies.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE or O’ Level English and Maths at grade A*-C) and a level 2 qualification relevant to the post. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
