Reaseheath College is looking to recruit a highly motivated Shepherd / Instructor to join our farm team. The role is varied with responsibilities ranging from daily management of the sheep flock to imparting skills to students

We are a mixed farm consisting of Dairy, Sheep, Pig and Arable departments.

Our main role is to act as a teaching resource for the Agriculture department and the wider college.

The Sheep flock currently consists of 450 ewes.

The annual highlight on the sheep unit at Reaseheath are our public open events or Lambing weekends held in spring.

In 2019 the sheep unit saw its most popular event with public visitors at an all-time high on all four days. This event is key and having a Shepherd who is willing to both engage with the public, talk through demonstrations, answer questions and promote the college is Crucial.

Reporting to the Farm manager, The Shepherd is responsible for demonstrating the very highest levels of best practice throughout the unit from hygiene and animal welfare to communication and student development.

As Shepherd you will be responsible for ensuring that the unit delivers the learner experience that is required by the Agricultural Curriculum department whilst ensuring the farm operates to the very highest standards as a commercial unit.

In addition to operating the flock and sheep unit from a management basis the Shepherd is also expected to be responsible for returning the budget set with the farm manager and be an active team player throughout the agricultural and non-agricultural aspects of the wider business.

The Shepherd is also responsible for growing and maintaining the brand of Reaseheath both as a college and a farming business, engaging with industry and returning new industry thinking to the college is crucial. Building relationships throughout the industry and with our existing Landlords and business partners is a key skill that you will bring to the business.

Having your own dog will be advantageous but not essential.

This is an exciting and engaging role. The successful candidate will not only be able to operate at the top of UK dairy production but have the ability to directly influence the next generation entering the sector.

The College offers a great range of benefits including: CARE pension scheme, free car parking, cycle to work scheme, on site gym membership, free tea and coffee, access to the library and use of IT software at home, in addition to working within beautiful surroundings.
