About the Role:
City of Bristol College is seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and proactive Technician to support the delivery of the Wood Trade Construction courses. This position is full time, will be based at the Ashley Down Centre 4 days a week and 1 day a week at our South Bristol Centre in Hengrove. You will provide support to the site carpentry, bench joinery and furniture making areas at both centres.
Over the next 2 years City of Bristol College are building a new Advanced Construction Centre alongside our existing Skills Academy in Hengrove where all wood trades will be relocated.
What you'll be responsible for/what we are looking for:
The role will involve providing support to teachers in the workshop areas, to enable practical training and assessment to take place, this will include:
- Ensuring tools, equipment and materials are available at specific times across the trade areas.
- Ordering and managing material and stock levels in line with the college policies.
- Working with the other trade area technicians to ensure workshop facilities are maintained to the expected standards to enable effective teaching and training to take place.
- Preparing wood, setting up machines and controlling health and safety equipment ready for learners to use.
- Maintaining tools and equipment to industry standards ready for students and teaching staff to use.
- Working with the facilities team to arrange for external contractors to come in and maintain the wood machines in the bench joinery and furniture making workshops.
- Moving lengths of timber in and out of the workshop areas from external storage containers.
- Ensuring that the external yards are safe and clean and that security is maintained.
- Overseeing the general cleanliness of the workshops through organising teaching staff and their students to maintain a clean environment.
We are looking for someone with experience of a similar role or who has possibly worked within a bench joinery workshop and who is confident in working in a fast paced environment, with changing priorities.
You will also need to be able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders, at all levels, internally and externally, as well as other members of College staff and students.
