JOB OVERVIEW

The Attendance Officer will work alongside key college staff to promote excellent attendance, through application of the Attendance Policy, key duties will include daily/hourly attendance monitoring for approx. 250 students, following up on absent students, and reporting non-attendance to Personal Tutors and other relevant staff.  This role is likely to be 50% desk based and 50% physically locating students.  The Attendance Officer has responsibility for supporting the college in meeting its obligations with regards to knowing the whereabouts of students.  In addition, the Attendance Officer will contribute to the efficient operation of the Academic Administration team by supporting other members of the team, particularly at busy times in the academic year.

This role would suit someone who is extremely interested in welfare and has an interest in developing their career in this area. The successful candidate will have excellent Excel skills as well as an approachable demeanour, great communication skills and the ability to roll their sleeves up and get involved with whatever is needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To follow the Bellerbys Attendance Policy and ensure all absences are accounted for and accurately recorded
  • To ensure all registers are completed and no missing marks or unexplained absences remain for each lesson during the day, reminding staff to complete registers as necessary.
  • To contact and establish the whereabouts of students with unauthorised / unexplained absence on a daily basis in line with the college’s Attendance Policy, working closely with the Student Services team, including college accommodation staff  and homestay providers
  • To identify and escalate incidents of students with unauthorised / unexplained absence where contact has not been established
  • To ensure that absence for sickness is recorded and the college nurse is informed, when required
  • To input authorised absences as notified by students, host families, accommodation staff and college nurse
  • To run weekly reports from the attendance database to show student absence and collate specific action points agreed with Senior Tutors and Student Services staff.  Circulate the report to Head of Section, Academic Director and Director of Welfare.

EXPERIENCE

  • Educated to NVQ level 3/4 or A level
  • Experience of work within a school / college (preferable)
