Health & Safety Advisor

The College is looking for an experienced, proactive, forward thinking Health and Safety Advisor, to assist the Health & Safety Manager with the safety and welfare across all College sites across Nottingham. The role is challenging, varied, and involves working independently as well as closely with College Managers from diverse disciplines to ensure all health and safety requirements are undertaken in an efficient and timely manner.

The College is seeking an individual who has previous experience of working as a Health and Safety Adviser/Assistant in a multi-discipline organisation, and has the ability to apply knowledge in a relevant and practical way, with exceptional communication skills to negotiate and persuade others through communicating and presenting effectively. The successful candidate will ensure policies and procedures are fully compliant and that all training, advice, inspection, audit and investigation requirements are comprehensively updated, monitored and implemented. You will provide professional advice to managers, staff, students and external clients in all aspects of health and safety at work.

You will provide specific advice on the physical, chemical, biological and design hazards in the workplace, investigate reported accidents, near misses and report any recommended remedial action. Ensuring all reporting mechanisms comply with required legislation e.g. RIDDOR.  You will also advise at relevant health and safety working groups and committees and complete reports and actions from meetings, reviewing and reporting on the College’s emergency evacuation procedures.

You will also act as trainer in areas of health and safety delivery, and assist in maintaining the College training database for compulsory health and safety training and regularly report on compliance. 

You will be self-motivated, ambitious, enthusiastic, confident and proactive with excellent communication skills. You will have the confidence to work within a client-facing role and will have the ability to work under pressure within a performance driven environment. You will be disciplined officer with a good work ethic with regard to maintaining personnel records and administration, and able to work autonomously, setting personal deadlines and goals; you will be proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office programmes and be able to prepare accurate and incisive reports and commentary. Experience of working in an educational environment would be advantageous.
