Our vision at Thurrock Adult Community College is to provide adult education where people have opportunity to learn, grow and shape their future.

To ensure we achieve our goals we are looking for highly motivated tutors to teach across all levels to help us increase and develop a diverse curriculum that meets the needs of the people of Thurrock and enables them to achieve their life and career ambitions enabling them to take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to them.

Our focus at present is to recruit a fully qualified teacher with a maths specialism. This will be a fixed term contract to join the Skills for Life team.  This is an opportunity to inspire and enable learners to achieve their potential. The postholder will mainly teach functional skills maths (entry level to level 2) to adults and also some stepping stones unit qualifications. It is desirable that applicants also have experience of teaching maths GCSE but this is not essential.  The successful applicant will need to work 18.5 hours a week including one evening but the days and times can be negotiated.

The post-holder will:

  • Have maths L5 specialist qualification or a degree or equivalent in maths.
  • Have Level 4/5 Certificate/Diploma in Education and Training, DTLLS, Cert.Ed., PGCE or B.Ed. and proven subject specialism.
  • Have experience of teaching maths in a school or college.
  • Have level 2 English, minimum GCSE grade C or equivalent
  • Share responsibility for the management of awarding body requirements for maths.
  • Contribute to the management of the process for internal assessment, verification, moderation and certification.
