Horticultural Instructor Technician

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England.

Joining us as a Horticultural Instructor Technician, you will take responsibility for the growing of plants and the maintenance of the Glasshouse complex which includes some of the grounds; acting as an instructor for practical groups requiring additional practical supervision.

Carrying out horticultural maintenance work in the Grounds that surround the College including planting, pruning, hoeing, watering, weeding and grass cutting, you will assist curriculum staff and students during practical land-based activities under the direction of the Centre Manager/Section Leader and supervise work placement students. 

Taking responsibility for the care and maintenance of all of the glasshouse complex and associated resources as well as the plants and materials contained within them, you must work to growing and cropping plans to provide plants required by curriculum, for events and for sale and contribute to other Horticultural projects ensuring maximum profile of the centre.

Candidates for this role must hold a minimum of level 2 diploma in Horticulture (or equivalent) and have proven, practical horticultural experience and the confidence to instruct others in practical tasks.      

Able to identify a broad range of trees, shrubs, perennials & annuals, you should have an understanding of all aspects of Garden maintenance e.g. Border work, pruning, hedge cutting, mowing etc and be able to work with a range horticulture machines.
