Sessional Lecturer Bsc DTS and BSc BTC Software

Software Engineering pathway year 1 to advanced year 3.

As a University, we are currently in the forefront of providing apprenticeship degree level work based learning through a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions (Network & Software Engineering pathways). Our major industry partner is BT.

To support our development in this area, we are looking for additional sessional lecturers who have knowledge and experience of current real time delivery to provide current industry practice context and relevance to compliment and enhance the students work based learning.

The software pathway provides students with an understanding of software fundamentals laying the foundation for developing this knowledge in subsequent units on software engineering. Students undertake a structured series of lessons and programming exercises using a suitable programming language such as Python,  C++ or other appropriate Object Oriented programming language to develop fluency in basic systems analysis, program design, coding and effective debugging and testing. Interactions with other software systems, such as the operating system itself, networking and databases will be incorporated.

In year 2 and 3 the pathway develops techniques used to reliably construct complex software systems in a corporate environment by the student and relation of the design and implementation choices to the parent organisation will relevant presentation of an advanced software engineering project to the class.

Challenges of large team program development will be considered, along with those of high speed parallel applications development, critical review of the advantages and dangers, including reference to published case studies. Students also use Raspberry Pis to develop programming skills and develop applications and programmes to control devices.
