This is a great opportunity to learn on the job and an NVQ Level 2 certificate in Catering & Hospitality.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Chef Apprentice to assist our Head Chef with the provision of Catering and Hospitality services to our Students, Staff and External Clients to the College for Events and Functions. This is a 2-year fixed term apprenticeship contract.   

This is a practical job based at Plumpton College where you will work alongside an experienced team who will provide training and support whilst you develop.  This role also offers day release to attend classes at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne to work towards a NVQ Level 2 certificate in Catering and Hospitality Operations.

The ideal candidate will be hardworking, enthusiastic and committed to completing the apprenticeship and earning a formal qualification.  This role would suit an individual who enjoys and has a passion for food and customer service.

In order to be considered for this role you must be physically fit and you will be competent in English and basic maths.

The rates of pay for this role will be based on the national minimum wage for apprenticeships:

Year 1:

£4.00 per hour

Year 2:

Under 18       £4.20 per hour

Age 18-20       £5.90 per hour

Age 21-24       £7.38 per hour

Age 25+         £7.83 per hour

This is a full time role, working 45 hours per week including time spent in classes developing subject knowledge.

Working Patten per week is 5 working days over 7 day a week to include two weekends per month on a rota basis and some flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the business as agreed with the Head Chef and Catering Manager. There will be some evening and weekend working required to support events, functions and meetings as well as faculty activities, college recruitment and promotional events.
