The University of the Highlands and Islands Archaeology Institute is a world-class teaching and research organisation dedicated to advancing our understanding of the historic environment through the creation, interpretation and dissemination of archaeological knowledge. The Archaeology Institute wishes to appoint a full time Lecturer in Archaeology to be based at the Orkney College campus, located in one of the most archaeologically significant parts of Britain.

The successful applicant will be required to offer research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, to undertake research degree supervision, and to be involved in the administration of teaching and research activities of the Institute.  Applicants will be research active with a specialism which complements our existing research and teaching activities:

  • European prehistory, especially  from Mesolithic to Bronze Age
  • Landscape archaeology
  • Heritage Management, and Public archaeology
  • Archaeological Science

Applicants will require a PhD in Archaeology or a related discipline, proven teaching ability at Masters and undergraduate level and a research portfolio with the potential to generate significant external funding and high calibre research outputs at an international or world-leading level.
