Gibbs Gears are looking for a motivated and keen apprentice to join their team. Candidates will be given the opportunity to learn a range of engineering core skills over the term of their Apprenticeship using a variety of equipment. APPLY NOW!!!

Gibbs Gears Precision Engineers is a family owned business. As an Apprentice with Gibbs Gears you are treated as part of the team from day one. You will be working in a safe, clean environment using state of the art equipment.

You will receive high levels of technical training, and have an experienced mentor to assist throughout your training. At the end of your Apprenticeship you will have a recognised qualification. Your career/training progression can be extended into HNC and HND qualifications. Progression through the company is possible with past apprentices now working in the Production Engineering Department.

Gibbs Gears apprentices are challenged to become multi-skilled trade people by being regularly rotated around the business, learning to set and operate all the machine plant and tools. You will receive training in the following areas:

  • Quality Control – using specialist CMM measuring equipment and conventional measuring equipment
  • Wire eroding
  • Grinding – CNC & Manual
  • CNC 4 axis Turning
  • CNC 5 axis Milling
  • Gear cutting – Hobbing, Shaping, Bevel gear on CNC and manual equipment
  • Broaching
  • Gear Grinding
  • Assembly of gear boxes

You will also become responsible for the following activities in the workplace:

  • Ensuring housekeeping rules are followed
  • Assisting in other areas of the business as required by their supervisor
  • Comply with all Health and Safety guidelines
  • Continually improve the business with positive thoughts and actions

Entry requirements

  • 5 x GCSEs Grade 4/C or above including English, Maths & Science (or equivalent)

Skills Required
Essential:

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Passionate about Engineering
  • Willingness to study independently
  • Awareness of Health and Safety regulations
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem solving skills

Desirable:

  • Full driving license and access to vehicle

Qualifications taken

  • Apprenticeship Standard in Engineering- machinist pathway
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • Level 2 Diploma in Machining
  • Level 3 Diploma in Machining
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
  • Functional Skills qualifications (if required)
  • Weekly attendance at Chaffron Way Campus, Milton Keynes
  • Regular visits from the College into the workplace
  • Observations and assessments in the workplace
  • Use of e-portfolio
  • End point assessment
