Solihull College & University Centre is at the forefront of innovation across two excellent campuses. With strong links to top employers across a range of industries, the College ensures its courses are tailored to continuously evolving industry needs.

The College continues to invest in top-class facilities for its learners, with industry-standard science laboratories and virtual reality equipment recently introduced at Blossomfield Campus and the Centre for Advanced Aeronautical Provision featuring flight simulators and a former Royal Navy Aircraft at Woodlands Campus. School leavers, apprentices, university level and adult learners can thrive in facilities unmatched in the region.

The College aims to make significant contributions to the West Midlands economy and beyond by providing high quality vocational education and training for students, employers and the wider community. Serving over 7,000 students and over 700 members of staff, the College is proud of its strong reputation within the education sector.

Staff possess the drive and expertise to ensure students leave the College with the skills necessary to make their mark in their chosen industry or progress to the next level in their education.

The Applied Science curriculum area is a dynamic and growing area, having recently received a total remodelling of the classrooms and laboratory areas. It provides a range of outstanding courses from Level 2 to Level 6, including the FdSc and BSc (Hons) in Applied Biosciences which have been developed to help local employers, such as the NHS Trusts, fill their skills gaps. The key focus in the curriculum area is to provide learners with both the practical scientific and laboratory skills to complement their academic development, increasing their employability and potential for success in future study.

An exciting opportunity exists to join the diverse team of Science staff as a Laboratory Technician, to support the delivery of the Science curriculum across all levels, with particular emphasis on the Biology and Chemistry curriculum. Experience of Molecular biology and Microbiology to service our Higher Education provision would be an advantage.

Duties will include the provision of flexible support for lecturing staff, maintaining laboratory health and safety standards and to assist the Technical Support Manager in ensuring the support needs of the Curriculum Team are met.

The successful candidate will have experience working as a Laboratory Technician, hold a minimum of a Level 3 Science Qualification and be able to work occasional weekends and evenings as required.
