Course Leader – Architecture (1.0)

Ravensbourne University London is seeking to recruit an adaptable, creative and innovative educator to provide leadership and management BA (Hons) Architecture within the institution. This will entail taking responsibility for ensuring high quality teaching and learning, achieving and maintaining learning and assessment standards and achieving progression targets in accordance with institutional strategies and regulations.

The candidate will be responsible for the recruitment of students to the course, including overseeing recruitment activities and interviews, and managing induction on arrival.

Working closely with the course leader for Interior Design Environment Architectures, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for each level of the Architecture course (including a potential masters year), as well as contributing to the teaching and assessment of Architecture units, in particular Contextual Studies and cross-disciplinary activities involving a number of courses within Ravensbourne. Making sure that students have access to Ravensbourne’s learning support offer is also key to the role.

Applicants should have an honours degree in a relevant subject, a masters degree (or higher) and professional accreditation with ARB. HEA accreditation or a PGCE is desirable or a willingness to complete either within 18 months of appointment. He/she will have significant professional knowledge of and experience in the architecture profession together with academic teaching experience. Research experience is also desirable. Additionally, applicants should have excellent organisational and management skills.

In particular, applicants should have thorough knowledge of architectural history and theory and current practice; an interest in emerging technologies; familiarity with the use of a virtual learning environment and associated teaching methodologies; and detailed understanding and experience of the meaning and process of professional accreditation – in particular for ARB and RIBA.

The successful candidate will develop and apply innovative and effective teaching techniques, using a variety of different teaching methods and learning resources/materials, contributing also to the Institution’s development of innovative pedagogies for creative disciplines.
