Teacher / Lecturer in English (Maternity Cover)

Location: Castleford Campus.

This post is fixed term covering maternity leave until January 2020 or the return of the substantive post holder, whichever is the earliest.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Lecturer in English to join our strong and experienced English department. The English team is a friendly and supportive team, who share best practice, value the team’s strengths and works together to achieve a common goal.

As Lecturer in English, you will provide outstanding teaching to ensure that all our learners succeed and achieve their highest potential. The teaching responsibility for this post will include GCSE English for full-time Study Programme students; however, you may also be required to teach Functional Skills English and the English skills development of Study Programme students who have already achieved the required English qualifications.

We are looking for an outstanding and enthusiastic professional who is experienced in teaching GCSE English to 16-18 year olds. You will establish a culture of excellent behaviour, motivation and high learner performance through excellent standards of teaching and learning.

As a Lecturer in English, you should:

  • Hold a professional qualification or degree in a relevant area (level 4 or above)
  • Have GCSE A* - C in Maths and English qualifications or equivalent
  • Be able to evidence relevant Continuing Professional Development

You should also be able to demonstrate:

  • A track record of highly effective teaching in English, with particular experience of re-engaging young people
  • A passion for supporting students to succeed
  • Excellent people skills in order to support the achievement of above average results
  • A track record of ability to implement key initiatives in a dynamic and changeable environment
  • Strong classroom management skills.
