We have a great opportunity at HMYOI Cookham Wood to join the Novus team as the Head of Education on a permanent, full time (37 Hours) Basis.

The purpose of this role is to lead a curriculum and support team to deliver services that maximise access to education, opportunity and achievement for all Young People to enhance their employment or further education upon release.

HMYOI Cookham Wood, Rochester, is a custodial establishment for Young People, aged between the ages of 15 and 18.  There are currently around 170 young people in the YOI with an operational capacity of 186. All young people work towards English and Maths qualifications, as well as ICT, PSD, and vocational pathways which include construction, creative arts, healthy living, customer service, catering and horticulture. We also offer an Advice and Guidance service which helps our young people with post release opportunities.

We'll need you to strategically plan for the development of the provision to ensure it meets contractual, quality and financial targets. To do this successfully you'll need to:

  • Have proven experience of working with Young People
  • Have a background of driving up quality and be commercially aware and outcome driven
  • Have a track record of managing a complex education service and developing, leading and managing a team effectively
  • Have a teaching qualification, minimum Cert Ed or PGCE
  • Have experience of successful partnership working
