Job Description

Hours: Part-Time 18.5 Hours per week

South Gloucestershire & Stroud College has an excellent reputation for delivering further education and work-based programmes in a range of subjects – from business to sport, engineering to media, GCSEs and A Levels to degree level courses.

Our experienced and passionate staff work hard to help our students achieve their personal challenges and career goals. We are proud of SGS and committed to making the College the best it can be. We are currently working hard to achieve “Outstanding” status after being classified as “Good” in our first inspection last year.

SGS College has an exciting opportunity for a Senior LRC Advisor to join our dynamic and vibrant team. The successful applicant will need to be able to work flexibly within the team, providing a high quality service to staff and students.

You will need to be able to assist in the development and effective operation of the Learning Resource Centres and the maintenance of the art research library at the SGS Queen’s Road campus. This will consist of general library circulation duties (including issuing stock, enquiries, reservations, information retrieval and shelving) but you will also assist in the maintenance and ordering of new materials and resources, making sure they are actively promoted with staff and students.

You will be responsible for the day to day operational running of the LRC and play a proactive role in supporting the learners to achieve their potential. You will help colleagues to support learners through study skills programmes and play a key role in communicating effectively with all staff, including managers.

Candidates for this role will ideally have experience of working in a library or LRC, strong IT skills, and be able to work successfully as part of a team. You will be customer focused with good written and verbal communication skills. You will be responsible to the Senior Librarian and Head of Learning Resources but, in their absence, you will need to oversee the day-to-day operation of the LRC provision on this campus. As such, the ability to work without supervision with a very organised approach is essential.

The post is based at our Queen’s Road Campus (where primarily art based courses are taught) so a good knowledge of art history and techniques would be required, and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud would be beneficial.

This is a part time post with timetabled hours, but occasional flexibility with working patterns may be needed or offered.

Closing Date: Wednesday 26 September 2018

Expected Interview Date: Thursday 4 October 2018

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Disclosure Certificate, Enhanced with Children’s Barred list check, as a requirement of the job.

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College welcomes applications from all sectors of the community and is an equal opportunities employer.
