Fixed term position until 31st July 2019.

Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield, Newcastle and Penrith.

We are now looking to recruit a Workshop Technician to join us as a general technician within the engineering environment and wider cross-college remit including (but not exhaustive) Landbased Engineering, Agriculture, Apprenticeships, Commercial, Motor Vehicle, Equine and Animal Management and the College Farm.

Maintaining and repairing curriculum vehicles and machinery including land based and motor related equipment, you will prepare and set up equipment requested for practical teaching across departments and maintain pressure vessels and lifting gear in compliance with current legislation. Supervising and instructing students on practical work as directed by the Workshop Manager, you must maintain the stores and support purchase ordering/raising requests of stock and ensure that equipment and teaching areas in a working, clean and safe condition.

You will also be responsible for the service and maintenance of farm equipment as outlined in the Farm Service Level Agreement.

Candidates for this role must hold a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy (or be willing to work towards this) and ideally have some knowledge of land based operations, equipment and engineering.

Able to verbally communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and people generally at all levels, you must be self-motivated, able to work effectively without day to day supervision and hold some basic computer skills.
