We have a great opportunity at HMYOI Wetherby to join the education team as a Senior Learning Support Practitioner on a permanent, full time (37 hours per week) basis.

HMYOI Wetherby in West Yorkshire, is a custodial establishment for Young People, aged between the ages of 15 and 18. There are currently around 280 young people in the YOI with an operational capacity of 320. We also offer an Advice and Guidance service which helps our young people with post release opportunities.

The purpose of this role is to promote progression and independent learning by delivering high quality, literacy, language and numeracy, learner-focused learning support. Assisting the Teacher/Trainer, you'll manage the behaviour of individual learners by using engaging and inclusive learning experiences and appropriate behavioural management methods. You'll develop and co-ordinate the operational delivery of contract alongside management. This is a challenging but rewarding role and we need someone who is flexible and resilient, with the ability to encourage, engage and motivate, to help give children and young people a brighter future.

To do this successfully you'll need:

  • To have an understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience.
  • To have a track record of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour.
  • To hold or be willing to work towards a Level 2 or 3 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners within an agreed timescale.

Applicants must demonstrate in their application their ability to meet the key responsibilities, key result areas and Qualifications/Skills and Experience detailed within the role profile.
