Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield, Newcastle and Penrith.

Joining us as a Horticulture Technician, you will take responsibility for the growing of plants and the maintenance of the Glasshouse complex which includes some of the outside spaces; acting as an instructor for practical groups requiring additional practical supervision.

Assisting with the production of teaching displays and materials and supervising work placement students, you will work to growing and cropping plans to provide plants required by curriculum, for events and for sale; taking responsibility for the sale of plants on the college campus and additional external events and contributing fully to the promotion of and continued success of the college.

You must also undertake commercial horticultural work (eg: contract growing for clients and events) in order to bring an income into the department and contribute to other Horticultural projects such as competing at the Harrogate Spring Flower show to ensure maximum profile of the department.

Candidates for this role must hold a minimum of Level 2 diploma in Horticulture (or equivalent) and have proven, practical horticultural experience and the confidence to teach practical elements.

Able to verbally communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and people generally at all levels, you must be self-motivated, able to work effectively without day to day supervision and hold some basic computer skills.
