Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield, Newcastle and Penrith.

Managing the Nursery for the planning and growing of plants for use by students and for sale, the successful Nursery Manager and Horticulture Lecturer will be responsible for all elements of the glasshouse complex which includes some of the outside spaces and for teaching Horticulture topics relating to propagation and commercial plant growing to various groups.

Developing growing and cropping plans to provide plants required by curriculum, for events and for sale, you will work with the Head of Horticulture to develop and increase the various sales outlets for the plants grown and advise on all aspects of the protected growing industry and curriculum and budget needs.

You must also undertake commercial horticultural work (eg: contract growing for clients and events) in order to bring an income into the department and contribute to other Horticultural projects such as competing at the Harrogate Spring Flower show to ensure maximum profile of the department.

Candidates for this role should hold a Level 3 extended diploma in Horticulture (or equivalent), have proven, practical experience in the Horticulture protected growing industry and be capable of teaching theory and practical elements. Some experience of developing the commercial viability of an area through sales and profile improvement would be beneficial, as would some previous teaching experience supported by a teaching or assessing qualification although these elements are not essential for the role.
