HE Specialist Mentor (ASD)
14.8 hours per week, 30 weeks per year.
Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based across the North of England with centres in York, Middlesbrough, Saltaire, Wakefield, Newcastle and Penrith.
Joining us as a Specialist Mentor (ASD), you will provide individual sessions for students in order for them to gain equal access to their course and give advice to colleagues on issues relating to the needs of the students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Delivering one to one Specialist Mentoring to students enabling them to develop within their higher education, you must provide bespoke mentoring sessions for each student according to their individual needs and maintain, in partnership with the HE Learning and Mental Well-Being Co-ordinator, an effective monitoring system to provide accurate data on the numbers of students supported and the effectiveness of that support.
You will also support the HE Learning and Mental Well-Being Co-ordinator in the planning and delivery of staff development sessions as appropriate.
Candidates for this role must be educated to degree level and have undergone comprehensive training in adults with autism which must include; all 5 NAS core autism online training modules or NAS tutor-led course ‘Understanding Autism', or Introduction to autism and the SPELL framework. You should also hold a PG Certificate in Autism / PG Certificate in Asperger’s.
With considerable knowledge and experience of adult Autism preferably obtained through mentoring in a Higher Education setting, you should have good organisational and problem-solving skills and be able to work on own initiative and also as a team player.
