Childcare/Early Years Assistant Apprentice (L2)

Working week: Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm, 35 hours per week, term time only

As a Childcare Apprentice you will, with the support of the classroom teacher/centre manager, provide general help and support to the children within the ‘Time for Twos’ provision. Preparing the children as they transition from Pre-School into the main school curriculum you will ensure their safety and well-being whilst prompting learning and development in a fun and engaging environment.

With clear supervision and guidance from the existing staff you will be responsible for supporting all children in the early years provision providing structured support in accordance with the schemes of work and EYFS.

In the role you will be responsible for supervising the activities of individuals or groups of children to ensure their safety, contributing to the personal and emotional care, health and welfare of all.

Through confident and well-structured teacher-led support you will encourage children to act as independently as appropriate, encouraging them to interact with others and become engaged in all activities, ensuring they learn, develop, play and grow in confidence in a fun, engaging and safe environment.

As well as working with the children you will support the teaching staff in creating displays of children’s work, preparing and organising learning resources, ensuring toys are safe and sterile and that art and craft supplies are well stocked. There will also be the opportunity to accompany pupils on school trips.

Desired qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade A-D  (9-3), or euivalent in English Language, Maths and Science is desirable.

Full training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. You will work towards a NVQ qualification. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through you course. Continual assessment for NVQ’s coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.
