Product Development & Design Apprentice (L3)

Apprenticeship duration: 3 years

Possible start date: 3rd September 2018

Working week: Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm (3.00pm finish Fridays), 30 mins lunch break. 36.5 hours per week


  • The production Quality Inspector to work within our Quality Department
  • The role would involve you being mentored by experienced Quality Engineers
  • The role would require you to use measuring equipment to check the parts that are made within our works
  • Use of CAD systems
  • Checking first and last offs
  • Marking out parts to ensure that they meet customer requirements
  • To be involved in the research and development
  • You would be required to learn how to use a CMM and various measuring instruments

Desired skills:

  • Numeracy and literacy
  • Basic engineering knowledge or interest
  • Ability to work within a team and on one’s own initiative

Personal qualities:

  • Good work ethic
  • Excellent punctuality and attendance record
  • Desire and flexibility to learn new and differing aspects of the engineering environment

Desired qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalent, at Grade A* to C or equivalent Functional Skills (Level 2)


For the ECMS Level 3 Product Design & Development (Engineering Technician) apprenticeship:

  • Training will take place at Dudley College which will be 2 days a week in the first year then 1 day a week in the remaining 2 years.
  • Functional Skills maths, English and ICT will also be included as part of the learning programme at College.
  • In addition, assessors will visit learners at their workplace as part of their continual assessment.
