Milton Keynes College offender learning team at HMP Bullingdon are seeking experienced Tutors or Trainers to deliver Level 1 Paving to a diverse group of learners within the prison. Sessional needs can be ever changing, and you could be required to cover varying hours, short or long term cover. There is also temp-perm opportunity with this particular role.
You will be teaching learners about how to plan, design and create their own pathway using block, slab and gravel paving techniques. In addition, you will improve on their customer service skills and personal development through individual development and action planning. This course is based in a workshop with functioning paving bays.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Paving / Landscaping / Groundworks trainer to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in Paving. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated Groundworks / Paving teacher, with a can do approach to education. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and creative lecturer, who can thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment, who can offer skills & knowledge to our learners and guide them throughout their courses.
This is an exciting time for prison education and this is a great opportunity to experience prison teaching as a variable hours tutor with potential to be covering part and full time hours. As a sessional worker you would also potentially have the opportunity to work at multiple sites in the region, and cover other courses if you also had qualifications or expertise in other areas – for example Bricklaying. You will be a team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Experience embedding Maths, English, E&D and Employability is essential in order to successfully deliver the curriculum.
HMP Bullingdon is a complex prison that has a number of functions. It is categorized as a local category B prison which a category C resettlement function, as was well as serving the courts of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, and Wiltshire. HMP Bullingdon has the capacity to hold 1114 offenders all serving a range of sentences from remand to life, with the average length of stay between 3 and 6 months.
In the department we believe the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge will help our learners to end their offending behaviour. We engage the hardest to reach learners and encourage them to take pride in their own education and self-development. As a department, we endeavour to inspire learners to achieve and for some, attain their first significant qualifications.
Other prisons nearby are – HMYOI Aylesbury, HMP Spring Hill and HMP Grendon and we have a total of 27 prisons across England. Vocational courses delivered do vary from site to site.

As a successful candidate you will have…
A relevant vocational qualification (Level 3 or above)
A full or part teaching qualification (PTLLS, DTTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
Teaching/training or vocational experience in a relevant discipline/subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
A proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
Experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources.
Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
Knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
The ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
A good level of IT literacy and willing to develop further.
Accuracy and precision in written presentation.
