The Science team has very positive links with local partner schools and recruitment to STEM A Level courses is strong for example there are five Biology A Level groups in Year 12 that follow the AQA specification. There is much emphasis on practical skills and a successful required practical monitoring visit during 2016/17 endorsed the high quality of student practical work.
The Biology team forms part of the Worthing College STEM Academy in which teachers and technicians of STEM courses work collaboratively to enrich the student experience and progression opportunities as well as contributing to the local agenda to increase uptake and progression to STEM apprenticeships and Higher Education. Biology students are encouraged to engage in a wealth of opportunities outside the curriculum such as Crest Awards, Olympiads, Engineering competitions, mentoring in schools as well as acting as science ambassadors at bespoke college events such as the Big Bang at Worthing College and the annual STEMfest that we hold in conjunction with Chichester University.
Due to a vacancy that has arisen we are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic Biology teacher, with a proven track record of successful teaching, to join our Science Team and STEM Academy from September 2018. The teaching would be spread across Biology A Level and our vocational Applied Science courses at Levels 2 and 3.
The college is committed to equality of opportunity and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
