Working week: 37.5 hours per week

Monday to Thursday 7.30am - 4.00pm with 30 min lunch break

Friday 7.30am - 1.00pm

The Technical Apprentice will spend a minimum of three months in each of our Technical Departments, experiencing the functions and activities. The apprentice will then specialise and spend a minimum of one year in one of those departments with a view to joining that department on a permanent contract.

The format and working pattern of the Apprenticeship is intentionally flexible to fit with the abilities and aspirations of the apprentice but will cover a range of Engineering disciplines and tasks across all departments.

Desired qualifications:

  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to progress academically in technical subjects. On that basis, candidates should have achieved a miniimum of 4 GCSEs at Level 4 or above (or equivalent Grade C / Level 2 Functional Skills) which must include Maths & English and a Science related subject.

Training provider:

Performing Engineering Operations Apprenticeship.

Full training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. You will be required to attend college premises 1 day a week working towards a PEO qualification. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through you course. Continual assessment for NVQ’s coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.

During assignments, the apprentice will report to the Manager of that department and work closely with a department member gaining a full understanding of the purpose and functions of that department..

The apprentice will learn basic engineering knowledge and skills which will enable him/her to make a meaningful contribution as quickly as possible.
