Working week: Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm, term time only, 35 hours per week

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the existing Site and Maintenance team to assist in maintaining a safe, clean, hazard free environment for all pupils, staff and visitors. Working as part of the existing team you will be required to assist in maintaining the decoration and fabric of the school building and premises as well as ensuring the safety and security of the site.

As Apprentice Site Assistant you will work as part of the existing Site team to ensure the school premises are well maintained and hazard-free. Through on-site completion of your Apprenticeship programme, with assessor guidance and observation and support from your employer/mentor you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to undertake the role with confidence. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the locking/unlocking of school premises, gates, doors, windows, fire exits, as required
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the site, reporting any issues to the line manager or a senior member of staff
  • To assist in general maintenance of the school site, eg painting and decorating, reporting issues as required, eg defective items, lighting, breakages etc, assisting with general DIY duties and minor repairs as required
  • Remove spillages and breakages and clean areas as required
  • Empty bins (internal and external) on a daily basis and deal with additional waste, rubbish, recycling as necessary
  • Assist with the monitoring of stock/stores levels and replenish supplies of items around school, eg paper towels, soap, toilet rolls as required
  • Assist in dealing with deliveries to school and move to appropriate areas as directed

Desired qualifications:

  • GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths are desirable but not essential.

Training provider:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services
  • Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Service Principles
  • Functional Skills English and Maths Level 1
  • ERR Unit

Full training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required. You will work towards a NVQ qualification. An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through you course. Continual assessment for NVQ’s coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.
