The Context

An exciting academic and career opportunity has arisen to lead a college wide function focusing upon enhancing subject development and delivery across all levels of provision at Blackburn College.

The Post

The Head of Research and Scholarship – Cross College will create and embed a sustainable scholarship and research culture within Blackburn College, whilst contributing to the research and scholarship portfolio of the College. The role holder will be a focus for encouraging research and scholarship activity with staff, students and external partners.

Leadership of the further development of research – informed teaching and academic endeavours across the College and effective approaches for teaching research methods across the College will be key aspects of the role.

The Person

Applicants can come from the full HE spectrum of HE institutions and agencies, and must have relevant experience and perspectives. The person will have high credibility within the College and amongst the College’s validating partners.

Successful delivery of the role of Head of Research and Scholarship requires a person who will add value to an already developed body of provision, and will have:

  • An earned Doctorate in a relevant Academic subject;
  • A background in, and demonstrable track record of research and scholarship;
  • A highly developed knowledge and understanding of the research environment within which College based higher education operates;
  • An active research and scholarship record;
  • Experience of providing research supervision and making seminar / conference presentations;
  • Experience of collaborating successfully and initiating effective relationships with external research groups;
  • Ability to lead on research and scholarship and effectively engage, motivate, mentor and enthuse others including staff and students.
