JOB ROLE

We are looking for an adaptable, enthusiastic and inspirational individual to join our high-performing team. The Head of Curriculum and Progression will provide the leadership and vision to deliver excellent student outcomes through development of teaching, learning and assessments, curriculum innovation, and quality assurance and enhancement that embeds outstanding collaborative working with both the University and the Study Group network. You will be responsible for leading and supporting a large team of academic staff; and have responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of LUISC students. Reporting to the Head of Centre, you will work closely with colleagues within and outside the LUISC; and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University. Critically the successful candidate will need to carefully balance the requirements of the Centre alongside the need for compliance, consistency and collaboration with the University and Study Group as a whole.

The successful applicant will have leadership of, accountability for and direct line management responsibility for a team of Subject Leads; line management responsibility for the Student Welfare Officer; and will support the Head of Centre in the overall management of LUISC. Consequently, applicants must have a proven track record of effectively and efficiently running a medium to large size academic department, with experience of managing QA processes. The role encompasses responsibility for standards of teaching, learning and assessment; the development of an innovative curriculum offer; and enhancement of student experience to ensure excellent student outcomes.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential

  • Experience of providing leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with evidence of significant success
  • Ability to delegate activities, set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging targets
  • Experience of planning and delivering change or continuous improvement in teaching & learning which achieved a positive impact on student outcomes
  • Experience of working with students and an understanding and knowledge of welfare, well-being and cultural issues which may arise for international students
  • Experience of data management and interpretation, and quality assurance

Desirable

  • Experience of HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process
  • Experience of successfully leading on internal communications, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations

SKILLS

Essential

  • A sound understanding of UK Higher Education and experience of managing support activity and staff in an international and/or UK Further and/or Higher Education context
  • Strong leadership, project management and organisational skills
  • A proven track record in leading, developing or delivering teaching & learning initiatives with a strong student outcomes focus
  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlines
  • Sound IT skills including MS Office and MS Excel and experience of working with databases
  • A high level of emotional intelligence including: patience and perseverance, good listening skills and empathy, and an ability to stay calm and manage challenging situations firmly and fairly

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of international admissions and recruitment activity in UK Higher Education

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Recognised teaching qualification or accredited as Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
  • Further management or leadership qualifications would be advantageous.(or a willingness to undertake such)
