The purpose of this position is to provide high quality supervision of students in the subject areas required, given the resources available and within the agreed and approved current timetable.
Responsibilities of this job include:
- Liaise with other staff as appropriate to ensure that work is fully and effectively covered.
- Actively encourage and promote the process of student learning.
- Supervise all commercial activities within the designated area.
- Supervise weekend working.
- Keep accurate and up to date registers of classes supervised of student attendances, lateness and marks.
- Ensure all administrative tasks, as directed, are completed fully and in a timely manner.
The technician duties within the role include having:
- To control stock and issue tools and materials to students in the workshops and construction site area.
- To prepare materials for students use in workshops.
- To advise course tutors of the need of replacement stock and materials.
- To raise material/equipment requisitions, receive, check and store goods in accordance with College procedures.
- To ensure workshops, tools and equipment are maintained correctly and kept clean.
- To supervise students in practical workshops under the direction of the Curriculum Manager.
- To assist the team in demonstrations during practical activities and operate audio visual equipment as required.
- To comply with all aspects of Health and Safety legislation and assist teaching staff in ensuring that students comply with Health and Safety legislation.
There is also a curriculum development element to this position. You will:
- Undertake such training as may be required and requested for such development.
- Be a member of relevant course teams and participate fully in their activities.
- Participate in course and curriculum monitoring, reviews and evaluations.
- Assist in the development of workshop facilities to meet the requirements of existing and proposed courses.
- Contribute to the Green Agenda.
- Contribute to building industry links through academic and commercial activities.
