Estates Assistant
We are looking to recruit an experienced Estates Assistant to join our existing team. The post will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service by: general caretaking, reactive and preventative maintenance duties relating to the care, safety and protection of buildings, staff and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Key holder duties for college sites
- Planned and reactive visits to sites with no permanent caretaker, providing service support during key times of need.
- Basic operator skills for the control of CCTV system
- Full understanding of security and fire alarm system
- Reaction to out of hours alarm callout
- Assist with any site security issues throughout the estate
- Liaison with staff, students, contractors, emergency services and visitors to the college in order to provide and promote a high level of customer service
- To establish and maintain routine maintenance schedules
- Maintenance and general upkeep of the college building and associated grounds
- To carry out PAT testing and inspection of the equipment across the college buildings
- Liaison with contractors in order to allow out of hours access
- Ensuring that controlled waste is stored in appropriate areas
- To be responsible for scheduled and reactive cleaning throughout the day
- Monitor and reporting of contractors work – issuing ‘Permit to Work’ where required
- To work with staff and students on recycling initiatives
- Monitor and cleaning of toilets and the replenishment of any associated items
- To act as first point of call for reported faults, carrying out any first line repairs where possible
- General portering duties including moving of furniture
- To control weekly test of fire alarms and maintenance of the Fire Diary
- To supervise and assist with periodic cleaning
- Report major defects of building, furniture, fittings and equipment to the Estates and Facilities Manager
- Be willing to hold a current First Aid at Work Certificate
- To provide appropriate access to the building in the event of adverse weather conditions or similar emergency situations
- Be expected to attend department meetings when required
- To cover keyholder and daily duties (including those at other sites) in times of absence
- Any other work requested and deemed appropriate by the college

Health and Safety responsibilities (all staff)
- Responsible for your own health and safety in the workplace and that of other staff, students and visitors to our sites
- Ensure you are familiar and compliant with Risk Assessments relevant to your department
- Challenge and report any dangerous behaviour to the Health and Safety Team
- Report any accidents or near misses ensuring relevant paperwork is completed in timely fashion and submitted to the Health and Safety Team
