Apprenticeship level: Advanced

Apprenticeship duration: 18 months

Possible start date: 30th October 2017

Working week: A variety of shift patterns. 40 hours per week.

You will be required to run a section and help the other chefs to prepare food and carry out other tasks within your capabilities. You must be able to follow instructions and be able to work from recipes. When busy you must be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure and remain calm always.

Work in our kitchen alongside our Head and Sous Chef. You will be required to run a section and help the other chefs to prepare food and carry out other tasks within your capabilities. You must be able to follow instructions and be able to work from recipes. When busy you must be able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure and remain calm always.

Cleaning: You will be required to help with keeping your area/section and the kitchen clean, tidy and sanitised properly to a high standard always, this includes the fridges, freezers and any storage rooms where food is kept.

Food preparation and presentation: You will prepare and present our food to a high standard at all times and be consistent.

Organisational skills: You will have good organisational skills, you must make sure that all food is properly labelled and stock rotated. You must ensure service runs smoothly and in time with your colleagues.

Personality: You will work your last hour like it is your first hour and always remain enthusiastic throughout your shift.

Equipment: You will respect our equipment and any tools of the trade which are provided to enable you to carry out your duties and you must keep all equipment clean and sanitised to a high standard.

Ordering: You must know how to order, organise and rotate your ingredients required to make the dishes on the menus and keep control of stock.

Communication: You must have good communication skills, including a polite telephone manner and face to face conversations. You must have the ability to ask for help when necessary and be able to take on board constructive criticism to enable you to improve your skills and increase your knowledge, therefore increasing your abilities to advance yourself to the next level.  

Training: You will be required to attend in house training sessions regarding health and safety or staff training for various policies and procedures when necessary. On occasion, you may be asked to attend training outside of the workplace which is necessary for your work.

Personal appearance: You will maintain your personal hygiene and appearance to a high standard, according to our policies and procedures, and you will follow the code of conduct at all times.

Desired skills:

Personal qualities:

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate a keen eagerness to learn and be able to communicate effectively. 
  • You must be self-motivated, a quick learner and able to follow instructions effectively. 
  • To progress you must show good time-keeping skills and conduct yourself in a professional way at all times whilst working and when representing the company.

Qualifications required:

  • Qualification in the catering industry would be advantageous, but not essential.
