HMYOI Cookham Wood, Rochester, is a custodial establishment for Young People, aged between the ages of 15 and 18. There are currently around 170 young people in the YOI with an operational capacity of 186. All young people work towards English and Maths qualifications, as well as ICT, PSD, and vocational pathways which include construction, creative arts, healthy living, customer service, catering and horticulture. We also offer an Advice and Guidance service which helps our young people with post release opportunities.

We have a great opportunity at HMYOI Cookham Wood to join the education team as a Barista Trainer on a full time (37 hours per week), permanent basis. The role holder will be ideally qualified as a Barista, the purpose of this role is to help plan and introduce an exciting new service within the establishment.

The successful candidate will have input into the project planning and will then become the trainer for young people working towards achieving their qualification in a practical setting. You will also help to promote progression and independent learning by delivering high quality, literacy, language and numeracy, learner-focused learning support to meet contractual requirements and standards. Assist the teacher/trainer in managing the behaviour of individual learners by using engaging and inclusive learning experiences and de-escalation methods. This is a challenging but rewarding role and we need someone who is flexible and resilient, with the ability to encourage, engage and motivate, to help give young people a brighter future.

To do this successfully you'll need:

  • To have an understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience
  • To have a track record of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour
  • To hold or be willing to work towards a level 2 or 3 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners within an agreed timescale.

In return you will benefit from an excellent package including - a favourable Pension scheme, Retail Discounts, Childcare Vouchers, Employee Assistance Program, Cycle to work scheme, Simply Health scheme and technology scheme.
