Join us in our Journey to Amazing and become a Special Education Needs and Disability Support Practitioner - Communication Support Worker (CSW) on a Part-Time and Term Time Only Contract.

  • Provide quality support to learners within a Primary and Secondary specialist area within the four broad areas of need (Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Sensory and Physical Needs)
  • Specifically, this role is to provide communication support and interpretation for Deaf students whose primary form of communication is British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting accurately between English and BSL in classes, tutorials, trips and meetings.
  • To communicate effectively and fluently in BSL & English and to interpret accurately between the two.
  • To familiarise yourself with specialised BSL vocabulary relevant to specific subjects.
  • To modify written English to clarify meaning.

The role of the SEND Support Practitioner (CSW) is to progress learning and the holistic wellbeing of individual or small groups of learners via in-class and out of class support as appropriate, carrying out support interviews, formulating personal learning plans and assessing progress against learning and support targets to ensure learners are achieving in line with their peers.

In order to do this, you will need:

  • CACDP / Signature / IBSL: BSL/ISL NVQ 3 or Stage 3 or Level 3
  • Experience of communicating for Deaf students in Further, Higher or secondary education
  • Minimum Level 2 Learning Support qualification, or willingness to achieve within an agreed period OR
  • Minimum of a Level 2 Specialist Support qualification in two specialist support areas. (or willingness to achieve within an agreed period)
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
