Join us in our Journey to Amazing and become a Special Education Needs and Disability Support Practitioner - Electronic Notetaker on a Term Time Only and Part-Time (18.5 hours per week) basis.

  • To provide quality support to learners within a Primary and Secondary specialist area within the four broad areas of need (Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Sensory and Physical Needs) both to individuals and small groups in and beyond the classroom.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet individual learners' needs e.g. using one or two laptops, adjustments to style and content of notes, literacy level, glossary, visual cues, highlighting etc.
  • Working flexibly with learners on the Autistic Spectrum, learners with a visual impairment, learners with physical disabilities and learners with moderate learning difficulties in order to provide notes that suit learners' specific needs.
  • Use of specialist software such as NoteEd for live relay notetaking and Amara for subtitling of YouTube videos

The Manchester College is based at many sites across the city, each with its own specialist high quality facilities within a friendly and supportive environment. We are the largest FE College in the UK providing education and training to a wide range of learners. 

The role is to provide professional and consistently high quality Electronic Notetaking access for D/deaf learners and learners with other disabilities, ensuring their communication needs are met. To actively listen to the spoken information in the classroom and offer a live transcription service via a laptop so the learner can read the information on a linked 2nd laptop or reference the key points after the session.

In order to do this, you will need: 

  • Type accurately at 50 words per minute (wpm) minimum
  • Signature/OCN Level 3 Electronic Notetaking qualification would be desirable
  • Experience of working with D/deaf people and/or people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
  • Minimum Level 2 Learning Support qualification, or willingness to achieve within an agreed period OR
  • Minimum of a Level 2 Specialist Support qualification in two specialist support areas. (or willingness to achieve within an agreed period)
  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
