Leeds College of Art has played a central role in providing education in art and design for 170 years. Having secured its own taught degree awarding powers the College is in the process of gaining University title and will be the first specialist arts university in the north of England.

The BA (Hons) Illustration programme was introduced in September 2013 to run alongside the specialist BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Animation degrees. This highly demanding specialist programme of study focuses on the role of applied illustration in the contemporary creative industries and broader visual culture. By currently selecting approximately 50 students from over 450 applicants the programme has become a highly competitive choice for students who want to commit to an innovative programme of studio based study.

The main focus on the role will be to lead, develop, deliver, support and assess the integrated theory and practice modules that contain the main written elements of the programme at Levels 4, 5 and 6. In addition to having a strong understanding of how to support research and writing skills, an awareness of drawing as practice, image making and the practical research would be beneficial. You will also need the skills or connections to build links with appropriate external organisations, events and opportunities for publishing and exhibiting student work as well as to deliver the conceptual and theoretical aspects of the programme. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lectures, seminars, studio workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in a relevant subject and be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the integration of theory and practice through a range of written and visual formats and have the ability to support both written and practical work through to Level 6 / Dissertation level.
