Leeds College of Art has played a central role in providing education in art and design for 170 years. Having secured its own taught degree awarding powers the College is in the process of gaining University title and will be the first specialist arts university in the north of England.
The highly successful and ambitious BA (Hons) Visual Communication degree provides a challenging programme of study that recognises the diversity and range of the contemporary creative industries. The course offers a student-centred multi-disciplinary design education, which allows students to work in a variety of media supported by Leeds College of Art. Students regularly work in: photography, illustration, video, graphic design, event design/management, 3D making (wood/metal/ceramics). The course has an excellent reputation for active engagement in the Leeds creative scene and for engagement with contemporary issues.
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lecturer on the course. The role involves working with the Course Leader and other team members to help plan, design, deliver and organise the course. You will have specific responsibility for leading level 4: timetabling; planning; liaising with workshops; organising study trips; external collaborations; coordinating Level 4 module leaders; booking visiting professionals; student personal progress tutorials etc. You will have the skills or connections to develop links for external engagement including, amongst others, live briefs, competitions, and curriculum visits to offer an excellent student experience. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including workshops, individual tutorials, seminars and lectures with a large audience.
The successful candidate will need to be educated to a minimum of Masters level in a relevant subject, demonstrate experience of teaching in creative disciplines; and have extensive knowledge and expertise appropriate to Visual Communication as a discipline including emergent innovations, and contemporary contexts.
