Our IT support service is currently seeking Student Database Programmer and Analyst to join our Student Data Systems team on a full time permanent role.

The Student Data Systems team develops and maintains the College’s student record system that underpins the entire student lifecycle from admissions & clearing through to graduation. The core system used is our in-house developed database. The team tests and supports the system, collaborating closely with colleagues in admissions, marketing and quality service departments. 

The Database Analyst Programmer is part of this team that works to develop, deploy, maintain and support the student and staff information system. They work with business stakeholders and other IT support staff to ensure requirements are understood and that systems meet institutional quality requirements.

The student record system is used by nearly 2000 students to access details of their academic progress. Many hundred enquiries and applications are received & processed. The student record system will link with other database management systems providing an authoritative source of student data and identity, enabling accurate and timely delivery of many different services to staff and students.

Duties:

  • Develop, implement and maintain our current student database deployment, writing clear & coherent source codes code using variety of programming languages such as MySQL, PHP, Java scripts, HTML, C++  and adobe graphics within pre-defined programming structures and standards. The database programmer should also be able to interface other application software packages such as Moodle, HR management environments.
  • Collaborate with admissions and marketing team in identifying and specifying system enhancements to meet institutional quality requirements.
  • Develop, test and implement code amendments and enhancements involving liaison with staff users to define testing scenarios to ensure that changes and developments are accepted (including test case and scenario documentation).
  • Provide support to subject matter experts on day to day use of student lifecycle systems.
  • Participate in the planning of future services, undertaking research and providing advice on strategies and solutions, considering both functionality & security of delivered services to assess their effect on the College IT Infrastructure.
  • First degree or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience with application development and the software implementation lifecycle.  Student systems and in particular Moodle or other virtual learning environment. Your  development experience would be a distinct advantage
  • Good working knowledge of relational database systems, architecture & products, especially MSSQL.
  • Knowledge of data exchange processes between systems
  • Experience of investigating & resolving errors, bugs and other technical issues within large application
