WHAT WE DO
Careers, Work Experience & Progression is part of the Student Life Directorate.
The Directorate leads on activities and strategies which contribute to an outstanding further education student experience closely aligned with the college and group strategic objectives.
Careers, Work Experience & Progression (CWP) supports students through guidance, opportunities, and experience to make informed life choices about their career pathway and destination. The SEND Career Adviser will lead on CEIAG for SEND/High Needs students. The role with have an overview of the quality of the campus-based career adviser CIAG for students with EHCPs and SEND/High Needs, as well a managing their own caseload across discreet programmes.
- The successful candidate will develop resource and expertise, working with the Careers and wider CWP, SEND team and curriculum departments to support the progression of SEND/High Needs students across FE colleges.
- The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, professional knowledge of statutory and current & emerging requirements as well as experience of working with SEND/High Needs students.
- The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly and autonomously to manage own caseload and support the quality of practice across multiple sites and Luminate FE Colleges.
- The successful candidate will also need attention to detail and be competent at recording intervention on college systems and writing user friendly reports for clients and college updates.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide impartial information, advice and guidance, flexible help and support for applicants and SEND/High Needs students with no curriculum preference on a wide range of careers related issues in individual or group situations
- Provide specialist resources for SEND/High Needs students to support recruitment, retention, and progression and support EHCP plans
- Lead cross college and external projects focused on SEND/High Needs and support centrally delivered progression activities - developing and maintaining relationships with external organisations to facilitate referral and signposting to provision suitable for SEND/High Needs students
- Have an overview of careers guidance for SEND/High Needs students in accordance with requirements for EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plans) reviews, supporting campus-based career advisers with EHCP requirements and managing own portfolio of EHCP CIAG.
YOUR PROFILE
- A Degree or equivalent higher-level qualification
- English and Maths at Level 2
- Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance
- Proven ability to be solutions focused and proactive in overcoming potential challenges
- Professional and credible with the ability to quickly demonstrate value and expertise with staff and students
- Professional and practitioner knowledge of a qualified L6 careers adviser
- Excellent communicator
- Good digital skills and have experience of recording, reporting on and monitoring guidance and interventions with students using online systems, Google & Microsoft platforms and social media.
