Lead the development of governance and strategic oversight at West Thames College as Head of Governance, supporting our non-executive board and executive team in this newly established role.

We are West Thames College, a community of more than 5,000 students, supported and educated by a talented and dedicated staff team at our Isleworth and Feltham campuses. Our Skills + Logistics Centre at Feltham is our vocational centre of excellence for logistics, construction, engineering, and motor vehicle curriculum specialisms - areas we have invested significantly in over the past few years to meet the needs of employers.

In September 2021, Ofsted graded us as being ‘Good’ which we are incredibly proud of having achieved. Leaders and employees across the College have worked tremendously hard to achieve this milestone and we now have our sights on being Ofsted ‘Outstanding’. We are ambitious for our students and for ourselves, as reflected in our mission and vision to be a vibrant college, inspiring all our learners to fulfil their dreams and ambitions.

As Head of Governance, you are the Clerk to the Corporation (our governing body) and its Committees, providing full and comprehensive secretariat and advisory support to the Chair and our Corporation Members (Governors). You will be responsible for advising the Corporation on constitutional matters, duties, and powers within the current legislative framework. The Head of Governance is accountable to the Corporation through the Chair and will work closely with the Chair, Corporation Members (Governors), Principal & CEO and her executive team.

You must have experience of developing non-executive board members and enabling them to fully understand and carry out the public duties expected of them. Working closely with the Chair and the Chairs of Committees, in close collaboration with our executive team, you will plan and manage the business of our board and ensure people are briefed and papers are timely and appropriate for their audience.

With all of this in mind, we are looking to appoint an experienced governance professional with substantial previous experience as Clerk to the Board, Governance Lead and/or Company Secretary.  This is a part-time role, working flexibly across the equivalent of two and a half days each week.
